To start, I am not a professional photographer but have been using digital cameras for the last 10 years or so. This is just the best I have ever had or seen. I have had the camera for a week now and have not used all the features of the camera but am working the way through it. The zoom features is awesome even with my sometimes unsteady hand. The quality of the shots is impressive. The only thing that lets it down is the included software for the PC. This is slow and clunky, I much prefer just to download pictures using Picassa and any editing that I want to do (Not much really, its either good or really bad, in which case I delete) I do in Photoshop or some other software. All in all I am very impressed with this camera.

This is my 7th digital camera not including mobile phone cameras which I also use frequently because of the convenience. First I must say that the pictures on Amazon do not do justice to how small and light this camera is. With a small camera bag it goes over your shoulder and you hardly notice it. I also have an Olympus 8M SLR. My main reason for buying this camera was to avoid having to carry my SLR on long trips with 2 lenses and fiddling about changing lenses when trying to take good photos is always a pain. I have certainly achieved this objective. And no power supply to carry either (if you have a computer with you). Unfortunately the charging cable is not the new mobile phone standard micro USB at the camera end, but at least it is the same as my SLR cable. For a small camera with a good lens this is a great pick.
As written in other reviews, this camera is let down a bit by the lack of RAW image storage. The JPG processing seems in general to be fine and the results are stunning – especially on high zoom. The autostitch, once you get used to how it works, is very effective and whilst you might get better results on a computer, who has the time to do so much post processing? I have found a couple of photos with bright green and bright pink where the results looked a little artificial due to the processing but otherwise I can’t really fault the results. For the first time with a camera (on a tripod) I managed to take a picture of the Orion constellation and the result is pretty good. The pictures are around 5-6M each – this compares favourably with the 14.4M for my SLR (RAW) but I think I’d still rather have the RAW. I have taken about 700 pictures in 2 weeks with this camera and never used more than 20% of my 16G SD card. The battery has never expired either, although I am charging it every day that I use it.
I have been using this camera in Bangkok, Thailand, where it is very humid outside. One evening I took it out and the lens misted over, but when I wiped the lens with a cloth it was still misty – the moisture had penetrated the camera itself. I understand that this is impossible to mitigate with manufacturing design – what I have learned to do is not to wipe the lens but to wait until the lens de-fogs and then the internal part of the lens is clear as well.
The night time capability of this camera is impressive and the flash works well too. It is unbelievable how far they have come since 2006 when I bought my SLR in terms of low light performance.
The movie mode is great too and I can dispense with a small video camera I was carrying around too. The SP-800UZ is small enough to carry around when you want video. The only slight disappointment here is that you cannot record sound and use zoom in the same movie.
So overall, comparing this with my other cameras, I would much rather travel with this one even though my SLR gives slightly better results (with a bit more patience and in good light).

I brought this camera approximately 3 weeks ago just before a trip to the Isle of Skye in Scotland and I haven’t been disappointed. I spent along time researching different camera- mostly SLRs and I came to the conclusion that this camera has so many features it wasn’t worth getting an SLR!
It is very easy to set-up and the manual is in the camera’s memory which is very useful when travelling. The main setting are very easy to understand, although I haven;t got to grips with all the light adjustment features etc. yet.
The best bit by far are the effects. The panoramic feature is amazing, and again, extremely easy to use- the camera basically does it for you! The fish eye and pop art colours are also great fun.
You can also adjust the image quality before you download the image e.g. blemish touch-up! And you can change the colours e.g. to black and white or sepia.
It is also fairly light and very compact- again, excellent for travel and it has a 30x zoom!!
I would strongly recommend this camera. I thought about it as it is fairly expensive but it is worth the money.
If you want to take good quality pictures and enjoy photography then I would recommend this camera.

I have had one of these for about a month now and shot a lot of images. It is interesting that the negative comments are coming from those who do not actually own one. I have a number of film and digital cameras, including leica Ms, SLRs, dSLRs and compacts, including an EP1. On balance, I love this camera. The zoom is awesome. I got used to the relative lack of controls quite quickly and found workarounds for the lack of manual controls. Some others have commented on the olympus software which seems to work well on my mac. I was worried about the charging mechanism but now love it as I can use my powermonkey to recharge the battery in emergencies.
There are 2 reason why the camera does not get 5 stars.
1. There is no RAW mode. I can accept that this camera is squarely aimed at snapshot or less experienced users who are using a long lens for the first time. But, there are many of us who use RAW most of the time. I can live with the omission but its lack is disappointing.
2. There is no manual white balance. This is unforgivable as the autobalances are inaccurate and there is no RAW option where corrections could be made.
If olympus could have corrected those, there would be no need for their low end dSLR. Eventually, someone will build the ideal camera but until then, this will keep my amused.

Excellent result and very easy to use. Lens cap is useless comes off all the time.
IB software os Ok but would be good if it was on cd instead of built into camera memory and manual is always better on paper and not like in camera memory (looks like olympus is saving money by using cheap cap, paperless manual and a software cd). I have to say battery life is very good used it all day with flash and never died, never had to use spare battery which I bought of course seperately. Like all mid to top range cameras no bag either.
