Review by Rose’s Dad for Sony DCRSX53ES Flash Memory Handycam Camcorder With Built-In 16GB Memory – Silver
Rating:
I have never had a video camera before, so I wanted something light, small and simple to use. And something that absolutely definitely positively works with a Mac. This ticks all four boxes. It weighs nothing, is really small, is simplicity itself to use and it works with my Mac.
The build quality seems good. The picture quality is good, although I haven’t tried running it through a TV yet. All in all, it’s great.
I was choosing between this and theSony DCRSR58EX Handycam Camcorder With Built-In 80GB HDD – Silver. I went for this because, whilst the capacity of the memory in the camera is much, much less – 11 hours at OK quality, 6-8 at higher quality – the time you can record on one battery charge is about double – this will do about three hours recording. The SR58 has a hard drive, instead of a flash drive, so it has more moving parts so uses more battery.
And I’m never going to film more than 6 hours without being near a computer, so that’s all fine. I’m delighted with it. Shame it doesn’t come with a case – which is bad, Sony, although I think par for the course these days. but all in all a winner
I cannot comment on the supplied software, as a) I hate all Sony software so b) have never used it Just plug it into the Mac and use imovie.
