This is a lens capable of very sharp images and I have no complaints on image quality.
There is a generous amount of travel in the focus ring allowing fine manual focus. Autofocus is rather slow as a consequence, but if you’re doing macro then manual focus is often a more useful technique to use. There is a focus range limiter to help speed up autofocus operation for either close or distant use only.
The other negative of this lens is the rather deeply recessed front element, which to me is a waste of working distance. That is the distance between the front of the lens and whatever you’re shooting. The lens length extends quite a lot when focusing closely.
